Chris is a Partner in our dispute resolution team.

Chris advises on a broad range of commercial litigation and other forms of dispute resolution focussing on contractual disputes, breaches of duty, shareholder and partnership disputes, fraud, defamation and reputation management and misuse of confidential information. He also has particular expertise in class actions and has regularly advised on high-profile group actions throughout his career. He acts for both claimants and defendants on complex matters across a range of sectors including mining, pharmaceuticals, consumer and sport. 

Chris was identified as a Leading Associate in the area of Commercial litigation: Premium by the Legal 500 for 2025 and 2026 and has ranked as a key lawyer in the area of Reputation Management for a number of years.

Commercial litigation

  • a Virgin Group Entity in relation to a claim against a third party regarding the use of the Virgin brand under a trademark licensing agreement which led to a judgment in excess of $100m in Virgin's favour
  • certain of the former non-executive directors of Carillion plc in relation to all aspects of the insolvency of the Carillion Group, including advising in relation to appearances before Parliamentary Select Committees and successfully defending them in disqualification proceedings brought by the Secretary of State for Business and Trade 
  • Jon Hillary in respect of a claim brought against him and his co-defendants by Ocado Plc alleging misuse of confidential information and breach of duty

Class Actions

  • RBS in defending actions brought by shareholder and investor groups claiming approximately £4 billion in connection with the group’s 2008 rights issue
  • UEFA in relation to personal injury claims brought on behalf of certain Liverpool fans in attendance at the 2022 Champions League Final in Paris
  • BHP in relation to claims arising out of the collapse of the Fundão dam in Brazil

Reputation Management

  • certain directors of the Stobart Group in relation to defamation and malicious falsehood claims made against them by one of Stobart Group's former directors
  • an international bank in relation to a successful application to obtain an injunction to prevent the misuse of a highly confidential internal report that was published online

Shareholder and Partnership Disputes

  • Sir Ron Dennis, Dermot Desmond and John Kelsey-Fry KC in relation to litigation regarding Queenwood Golf Club Limited
  • various partnerships in relation to the enforcement of restrictive covenants in partnership agreements
  • various partnerships in relation to disputes with current and former partners
