Edward Kerr
Edward is a senior associate working in our Australian Finance practice, specialising in real estate finance, fund finance, social infrastructure finance and general corporate finance.
He also has experience advising clients in relation to matters concerning the Personal Property Securities Act 2009 (Cth), and in relation to the debt financing aspects of mergers and acquisitions, IPOs and restructuring transactions.
Edward advises domestic and international financial institutions, funds and various types of borrowers, including leading Australian and international banks, property developers or fund managers, private credit funds, community housing providers, ASX listed organisations, government owned corporations and departments.

- QIC Limited — in connection with the ongoing financing requirements of the QIC Property Fund, the QIC Town Centre Fund and the QIC Active Retail Property Fund
- Suncorp Bank — in relation to its financing to Centennial for the acquisition of the Portside Wharf in Hamilton, Queensland from Brookfield Asset Management
- AsheMorgan — in relation to its acquisition from Dexus of the ‘AM-60’ office tower at 60 Albert Sreet, Brisbane
- AsheMorgan — in relation its acquisition of industrial assets located in Victoria and Queensland
- Irongate Group — advising the senior financier in relation to debt facilities to Irongate for the acquisitions of warehouse and industrial properties in New South Wales and Queensland
- Addenbrooke — a construction facility from Gresham for the development of ‘Merchant House’ at 333 Kent Street, Sydney
- LaSalle Investment Management in respect of real estate investment facilities provided to its various managed funds by major international and domestic banks
- A syndicate of private credit funds in relation to financing for the acquisition by a Melbourne based property developer of a parcel of land located at The Village Alphington precinct, in Victoria

Social infrastructure finance
- Commonwealth Bank — as the sole senior lender to Assemble for the acquisition and development of 1,141 affordable single-family home across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia
- Commonwealth Bank — as the sole senior lender to Assemble for various social and affordable housing projects, including the development of 315 homes in Belconnen (ACT) and 237 homes in Ivanhoe (Victoria)
- the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) — in relation to its A$74 million concessional debt financing to Campus Living Villages to deliver more than 400 purpose‑built student beds in Darwin, Northern Territory, adjacent to Charles Darwin University
- Evolve Housing — in relation to its long-term strategic financing of 85 social and affordable homes in Victoria's Sunshine North, with financing provided by Housing Australia and Cerberus Capital Management
- M&G Real Estate — in relation to its acquisition from Invesco of a 369 bed purpose-built student accommodation asset in Parkville, Victoria, nearby the University of Melbourne
Corporate financing and debt capital markets
- Commonwealth Bank — in relation to an A$150 million secured, multi currency borrowing base facility to a global energy and commodities trading firm
- Soul Patts (ASX:SOL) — its A$110 million of secured credit facilities provided to Australian copper-gold producer and explorer Aeris Resources Limited (ASX:AIS)
- Seven Group Holdings (ASX: SVW) on its A$250,000,000 exchangeable bonds issue in 2022, a rare and unique transaction in Australian capital markets as the bond holders would have the option to exchange their holdings for Boral Limited shares
- HUB24 Group (ASX: HUB) — its external financing arrangements with Commonwealth Bank of Australia, including a refinance of existing debt facilities from Westpac and ANZ Bank
Mergers and acquisitions, IPOs and restructuring
- BlackRock in relation to its acquisition of a controlling interest in $400 million self-storage operator StoreLocal
- GemLife Communities Group (ASX:GLF) – its debt financing arrangements in connection with its A$750 million initial public offering (IPO) and ASX listing (2025), at an offer price of approximately A$1.6 billion
- DCOH Group (formerly the ‘Halikos Group’) – its major corporate restructure and ongoing debt financing requirements
- Suncorp Group (ASX: SUN) in relation to its A$4.9 billion sale of Suncorp Bank to ANZ Bank
Background
Ed has completed a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Commerce from Deakin University. Ed is admitted to practice as a solicitor in the Supreme Court of Victoria and High Court of Australia.
Before joining the firm, Ed worked as a solicitor in the banking and finance team of a national law firm in Melbourne.
