Paul Brzyski handles high-stakes appeals, critical motions and complex litigation.

Paul has led appeals in the Second, Third, Sixth and D.C. circuits and played key roles on litigation teams in appellate and trial courts around the country. His work has often involved novel issues across a wide range of substantive areas, including administrative law, sovereign debt, bankruptcy, fraudulent transfer, transactional insurance, fiduciary duties, accounting standards and civil rights. Beyond the appellate courts, he advises and represents companies and individuals in trial courts and arbitration proceedings and regularly advises clients on litigation strategy and risk as they navigate complex legal disputes.

Paul’s clients span industries and sectors. He has particular experience in financial services, investment and asset management, private equity, insurance and energy.

Before joining the firm, Paul clerked for the Honorable Beth Robinson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Honorable Terrence Boyle of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina

  • Represented the holders of bespoke debt securities against the Republic of Argentina, briefing complex issues of first impression arising from these novel instruments.

  • Represented a major U.S. city challenging a federal agency’s legal position restricting access to records under the Freedom of Information Act.

  • Defended a private equity sponsor against fraudulent transfer and breach of fiduciary duty claims asserted by a Chapter 7 trustee.

  • Represented a hedge fund through multiple appeals and before the U.S. Supreme Court on issues related to the scope of non-debtor protections in bankruptcy.

  • Represented a family office in pursuing recovery on defaulted sovereign bonds.

  • Represented a foreign national in proceedings raising complex issues of extradition law.

  • Serve as court-appointed amicus curiae in a petition for review challenging an adverse agency determination raising issues of first impression as to judicial reviewability.
