The Technical Expert Group was established to assist the Pensions and Private Capital Expert Panel (the Expert Panel) with exploring several barriers to achieving the twin aims of better outcomes for UK savers in defined contribution (DC) pension schemes and greater investment into private capital funds, in turn supporting high growth businesses in the UK. The analysis was broken down into four themes: investment case and transparency; market infrastructure; liquidity; and the wider pensions evolution, and was published in Expert Panel's September 2024 interim report. The Technical Expert Group will now continue supporting the Expert Panel towards the publication of its final report in Q1 2025.
Herbert Smith Freehills also has a wider relationship with the BVCA, with lawyers attending and the firm sponsoring its recent BVCA Summit 2024 (11-12 September 2024).
Commenting on his appointment, Shantanu said: "It's a real honour to be a member of the BVCA's Pensions and Private Capital Technical Expert Group, working with peers from across the financial services industry to formulate solutions to two of the key challenges of our time – improving retirement outcomes for UK savers and meeting the significant funding requirements of UK businesses."
