Heike Schmitz, partner at Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer in Frankfurt and co-head of the firm’s ESG practice in EMEA, has been appointed to the German Government’s Sustainable Finance Advisory Board.

Comprising 20 experts from business, finance, academia and civil society, the board has been established by the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF), together with the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN), for the 21st legislative term.

The board will advise the Federal Government on how to streamline sustainable finance regulation and mobilise private capital to support the transition. Its work is intended to help simplify the regulatory framework while strengthening the financing of Germany’s transformation towards a more sustainable economy.

Commenting on her appointment, Heike Schmitz said: Sustainable finance is a complex field that can only be advanced effectively through close collaboration between policymakers, business, civil society and academia. I look forward to working with highly regarded experts from across these sectors to develop practical recommendations.

Further information on the work of the Federal Government’s Sustainable Finance Advisory Board is available in the BMF press release.
