In June 2015, the Council of Ministers of the European Union finally agreed a general approach on the proposed EU General Data Protection Regulation, paving the way for negotiations to commence between the European institutions to agree a final version of the new GDPR.

With the adoption of a general approach by the Council, the three European institutions have now entered into trilogue discussions in order to try and agree a final position on the GDPR by the end of 2015.
