London International Disputes Week (LIDW) 2025 is fast approaching. Herbert Smith Freehills is delighted to co-host with Twenty Essex a public international law-focused panel on 5 June (Thursday) 2025:

Growing Demand, Limited Capacity: International Courts and New Global Challenges

The panel will consider the increasingly in-demand International Court of Justice, ITLOS, and other international courts and tribunals in an era of growing geopolitical tensions, economic pressures and uncertainty over the future of international law. They will discuss what reasons may underlie this growing demand for adjudication in international law and how these judicial bodies have responses. Topics to be covered include the effectiveness of advisory opinions, provisional measures, and other forms of intervention that may or may not be unique to such courts. Finally, the panel will consider the future of such courts and tribunals from a macro-perspective, whether they are fit for purpose in the face of new challenges, and how States and non-State actors may interact with them.

We will commence at 8:30 with a networking breakfast, followed by the seminar at 09:00.
