Katharine Scott advises key creditors, companies and investors in complex bankruptcies, restructurings, insolvencies and other distressed situations. 

Katharine represents significant parties including debtors, secured lenders, bondholders, official or ad hoc creditors’ committees, sponsors, trustees and boards of directors in complex Chapter 11 bankruptcies, out-of-court restructurings, distressed investments, and other special situations and strategic transactions, as well as bankruptcy-related disputes and adversary proceedings.

She works with clients across a wide range of industries and sectors. 

Katharine brings eight years of bankruptcy and litigation experience to her work on behalf of clients. Prior to joining the firm, she worked as an associate in the bankruptcy and restructuring practices of leading New York law firms, representing key parties in some of the most significant bankruptcy cases of the past several years, including In re First Brands Group LLC, the headline-making “free-fall” Chapter 11 case, one of the largest filed in 2025. During law school, Katharine interned with Judge Sean H. Lane of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. She also previously worked as a paralegal and legal intern with boutique litigation firms in New York and San Diego. Katharine has been recognized for multiple consecutive years as a Super Lawyers “Rising Star.”

  • Represented an ad hoc group of prepetition secured lenders and debtor-in-possession (DIP) lenders to First Brands Group in its Chapter 11 cases.*

  • Represented an ad hoc group of secured lenders to RugsUSA in the negotiation and consummation of a $120 million acquisition and equitization transaction.*

  • Advised an ad hoc group of first lien lenders and noteholders to MultiPlan on the negotiation and consummation of an exchange transaction that extended approximately $4.5 billion of debt maturities by three years.*

  • Counseled an ad hoc group of term lenders and noteholders to Xplore Inc. on a $1.7 billion Cash Against Documents comprehensive recapitalization transaction.*

  • Represented Shoes For Crews in a sale to a group of its secured lenders through voluntary Chapter 11 proceedings and in obtaining approximately $30 million in DIP financing from the secured lenders acquiring the business.*

  • Represented Vesta Holdings LLC and certain of its subsidiaries in their Chapter 11 cases and obtained 100% of secured lender and general unsecured creditor support in an all-asset sale of the business.*

  • Represented Vewd Software USA LLC and affiliates in prepackaged Chapter 11 proceedings restructuring more than $100 million in debt and securing $45 million in exit financing.

  • Counseled Toisa Ltd. in its Chapter 11 proceedings involving $1 billion in liabilities and vessel sales exceeding $550 million.*
