Senior Regulator re-joins Herbert Smith Freehills

Tim, a longstanding former partner at Herbert Smith Freehills, re-joins the firm having completed two extended terms as the Chair of the Regulatory Decisions Committee (RDC) of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and the Enforcement Decisions Committee (EDC) of the Payment Systems Regulator (PSR).

Drawing on almost 9 years of experience in these roles, Tim will provide significant strategic insight into financial services supervision and enforcement in the UK for the firm's regulated clients in the UK and globally.

Before his appointments as Chair of the RDC and EDC in 2016, Tim spent 38 years at Herbert Smith Freehills, including 28 years as a partner in London and Hong Kong. In that time, he was the firm's Executive Partner, Asia Managing Partner and latterly Head of Commercial Litigation in London. Tim was also a member of the firm's governing Council for many years.

Tim's arrival will add to the roster of senior lawyers in the firm's contentious FSR team in London.  Together with Tim, partners Jenny Stainsby, Hywel Jenkins, Chris Ninan and Jon Ford and consultants Karen Anderson and Andrew Procter offer unrivalled combined and complementary expertise to the firm's clients drawn from decades of experience in private practice, at regulators and in-house.

Tim is the latest hire to the firm's Global FSR practice following Dr Timo Bühler also rejoining, as a partner, last year and the creation of a dedicated FSR team in Germany.
