Hanna Azkiya
Hanna is a Senior Associate in Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer's international arbitration group, based in Singapore.
She has represented clients on international arbitrations under the rules of major arbitral institutions, including ICSID, SIAC, ICC, and GAFTA, as well as ad hoc arbitrations under the UNCITRAL and SCMA Arbitration Rules. Her main areas of practice include commercial, joint-venture /shareholder, projects and energy, and investor-State disputes, as well as Indonesia-related disputes. She also has experience working on charterparty and commodities trading disputes, and previously enjoyed a secondment at J.P. Morgan’s Commodity Trading legal group in Singapore.
Hanna receives arbitrator appointments. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, an accredited mediator with the Singapore International Mediation Institute (SIMI) and is on the Sage Mediation Panel of International Mediators. She also serves as an Adjunct Professor at her alma mater, Universitas Indonesia. She is listed in the Lexology Index (formerly Who's Who Legal): Arbitration Future Leaders – Non Partners in 2025 and 2024 with peers and clients remarking that she is "extremely detailed, hands on, tirelessly hardworking, never-ending energy", "a brilliant lawyer", and "she is very pleasant and excellent at what she does".

- co-arbitrator in an international arbitration under the SIAC Arbitration Rules over disputes arising out of a distributorship agreement for pharmaceuticals governed under Indonesian law
- an Indonesian pipeline operator in an ICC arbitration against a gas producer and a gas shipper, arising under an agreement for the transport of natural gas from an offshore Indonesian field
- Prime Energy in a multibillion-dollar ICSID arbitration against the Republic of the Philippines under the Netherlands-Philippines bilateral investment treaty
- an Asian LNG buyer in relation to gas price review mechanism and risks in the Asia-Pacific LNG market
- a supermajor oil and gas company in an environmental litigation in Indonesia
- a major Philippine conglomerate in an SIAC arbitration against its Indonesian joint venture partner, arising out of a dispute over shares in a Dutch venture that owns and operates the major toll roads in and around Manila
- an Australian Joint Venture in an ICC arbitration arising out of the design and construction of a process plant in Western Australia
- The Republic of Indonesia against PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara in an UNCITRAL arbitration relating to the enforcement of divestment obligations from a Contract of Work

Hanna is admitted as an advocate in Indonesia. She holds a Bachelor of Laws from Universitas Indonesia and a Master of Laws in Admiralty from Tulane University Law School. She was the First Best Oralist at the 2007 International Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and the Best Speaker in the Finals at the 2005 International Maritime Law Arbitration Moot Competition.
