John W. Elias
John draws on two decades of federal government service involving virtually every aspect of antitrust regulation, enforcement and policy. Prior to joining the firm, John served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General of the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, overseeing the division’s appellate, international and policy work. Earlier in his career, he litigated both civil and criminal cases for the division, first as a civil trial attorney with the Transportation, Energy & Agriculture Section and then in the Washington Criminal Section, where he obtained the then-largest-ever criminal penalty—$195 million—for a domestic antitrust cartel in U.S. v. Sandoz. He also served for two years as Special Assistant to the Directors of Civil and Criminal Enforcement, providing review and oversight of both civil and criminal actions.
Over the course of his career, John also served in a number of advisory roles, including with the White House Counsel’s Office as a Senior Associate Counsel.
