Joshua R. Averbach works on complex litigations, arbitrations and investigations.

Josh provides inception-to-resolution support on a diverse range of matters, including commercial, business and employment disputes, white collar, securities and corporate governance suits and investigations, restructuring and bankruptcy-related claims, and class action lawsuits, among others.

Josh conducts research and analysis on legal issues for pre-suit assessments and case strategy, motions, hearings and appeals. He recently worked on a comprehensive analysis of claims and trends in class action litigation and key developments in class action law. Josh’s work also involves developing the factual foundations in cases, drafting fact interrogatories, conducting large-scale document production and review, and preparing outlines for witness testimony. 

Josh has a long-standing interest in technology, innovation and intellectual property. He presented on recent enforcement actions under California’s data privacy regulations as part of the firm’s cybersecurity luncheon series. He also lends his research and writing skills to the firm’s client-facing publications. 

Josh is committed to pro bono work, including assisting asylum seekers with petitions and hearings and in appeals before the Board of Immigration Appeals and the Second Circuit. He also represents veterans seeking service-related disability benefits in petitions and appeals to the US Department of Veterans Affairs. Most recently, he has been providing legal research and drafting support on civil rights issues for a pro bono representation. 

Josh returned to the New York office as an associate after participating in the firm’s summer program. While in law school, he completed public law field placements with the New York Office of the Attorney General’s Labor Bureau and with the New York City Law Department’s Affirmative Litigation Division. He also conducted research on the implications of artificial intelligence on insurance law for Catherine Sharkey, NYU School of Law’s Segal Family Professor of Regulatory Law and Policy, and served as a law clerk at the NYU-affiliated Institute for Policy Integrity, a nonpartisan think tank for the improvement of governmental decision-making around environmental and energy policy.
