Juliana Oliveira Maggio is a litigator who maintains a diverse practice with a focus on commercial, securities, auditing, and bankruptcy-related matters.

Juliana represents clients in civil litigation in state and federal courts, in commercial arbitrations, in internal investigations, and in connection with investigations and enforcement proceedings before government and regulatory agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB).

Prior to joining the firm, Juliana was an associate in one of Brazil's leading law firms.

  • Represented EIG Global Energy Partners in obtaining summary judgment on liability and a $283 million settlement in a fraud action against Petrobras arising from the Operation Car Wash corruption scandal in Brazil.

  • Represented officers and directors of Gerdau S.A., Brazil’s largest steel producer, in a class action alleging securities fraud.

  • Represented a Big Four accounting network in a class action lawsuit arising from the bankruptcy of Parmalat in Italy, involving multiple jurisdictions worldwide, including Brazil.

  • Represented accounting firms and individual accountants in PCAOB and SEC investigations and disciplinary proceedings.

  • Conducted internal investigations for a Brazilian company involving whistleblower complaints and allegations of violations of internal policies and regulatory laws.

  • Represented Sirius Satellite Radio against breach of contract and tortious interference claims in commercial arbitration proceedings seeking damages of $130 million, in which the final award dismissed all claims with prejudice and was confirmed by the New York Supreme Court.

  • Represented the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Magna Entertainment Corp. in litigation concerning recharacterization of debt and equitable subordination claims.

  • Represented the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in litigation concerning the valuation of Smurfit-Stone Container Corp.

  • Represented the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in litigation concerning approval of a settlement agreement between the Capmark Financial Group Inc. and its secured lenders.

  • Represented a large group of Madoff investors in litigation concerning preference and fraudulent conveyance claims.

  • Represented certain creditors with claims against the estate in the Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. bankruptcy.

  • Represented a Brazilian refugee applying for asylum in the United States in a pro bono matter.

  • Represented a veteran of the US Navy in a claim for benefits in a pro bono matter.
