The Earthshot Prize has announced the five incredible innovators who've won £1 million each to scale their ideas to protect the planet.

HSF Kramer nominee – Advanced Thermovoltaic Systems (ATS) – was named the winner in the Fix our Climate category.

This time last year, HSF Kramer head of infrastructure Gavin Williams nominated ATS – which has developed technology to turn industrial heat waste into electricity – for the prize. Gavin has known Eric Beynon, who now works at ATS, for 25 years. Gavin said, "ATS is thrilled by the profile the prize has given them as they seek to raise funding to develop their technology."

As they accepted their award, the ATS team said, “Tonight, we're not just celebrating this achievement – we’re embracing the responsibility to build a cleaner, more sustainable future for our children and our planet.”

The prize winners across five categories were:

  • Fix our climate – Advanced Thermovoltaic Systems (ATS), which offers a simple, safe and reliable solution to transform industrial waste heat into electricity.
  • Revive our oceans – High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People, which is engaging with governments around the world to officially protect 30% of our land and oceans by 2030.
  • Build a waste-free world – Keep IT Cool, which provides sustainable refrigeration and smart distribution solutions for small farmers and fishers.
  • Protect and restore nature – Altyn Dala Conservation Initiative, which is working to protect and restore Kazakhstan’s Golden Steppe – one of the world's largest conservation projects.
  • Clean our air – Green Africa Youth Organization (GAYO), which drives behavioural change to help communities clean up waste, create jobs and build infrastructure to support circular waste management across Africa.
