Leading international law firm Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) has announced the promotion of eight partners in Australia as the firm continues to bolster its private capital, energy and digital expertise.
Following the firm’s recent announcement that Herbert Smith Freehills and Kramer Levin have voted to approve their combination, the firm continues to invest in its global platform with the appointment of 19 new partners globally.
HSF for the first time in Australia has promoted a partner to its Digital Legal Delivery practice as the firm continues to grow its emerging tech and digital legal advisory offering.

The promotions will come into effect from 1 May 2025.
Meet our eight new partners
Emily Coghlan, Digital Legal Delivery (Legal and Legal Technology), Melbourne
Emily leads the Digital Legal Technology and Legal teams within our Digital Legal Delivery practice group – a multi-disciplinary team of qualified lawyers, legal analysts, technologists, eDiscovery professionals and legal project managers. As a key part of the firm’s global Digital Legal Delivery offering, these teams are ever evolving and deliver a growing range of legal and legal technology services to our clients, including legal services that leverage AI and GenAI. Emily supports clients across all sectors and industries. Prior to this role, Emily practiced as a commercial litigation lawyer at HSF, where she specialised in class actions.
Michael D’Agostino, Projects, Energy and Infrastructure (Projects), Melbourne
Michael has 12 years’ experience in delivering complex major projects in the energy and infrastructure sectors. Based in Melbourne, Michael provides strategic advice on the procurement and delivery of energy projects, focusing on clean and renewable technologies. His expertise also includes rail, oil, gas, and mining projects and he has worked on projects across North America, Latin America, South East Asia, and Australia. Clients value Michael's calm approach and understanding of their business and industry.
Gabby Herron-Cartwright, Finance (Energy and Infrastructure), Brisbane
Gabby Herron-Cartwright has over 15 years of experience advising clients on the financing and development of major energy and infrastructure projects, specialising in projects focused on the energy transition. Based in Brisbane, Gabby provides pragmatic and efficient structuring advice, particularly on multi-sourced financing solutions for private and government clients. Her career spans work in the UK, Hong Kong, and Australia, advising on projects in over 25 jurisdictions. Gabby is admitted to practice in both Australia and England & Wales.
Tamanna Islam, Corporate (Financial Services), Sydney
Tamanna has over 10 years' experience specialising in financial services regulation and wealth management, with a particular focus on insurance, superannuation, and financial advice and distribution. Tamanna is an expert across the full lifecycle of regulatory matters, including governance, licensee and conduct obligations, prudential regulation, legacy and rationalisation issues, and M&A transactions in the financial services sector. She is also experienced in advising on regulatory strategy and engagement with Australian regulators, ASIC and APRA.
Geoff Kerrigan, Corporate (M&A and Mining), Perth
Geoff is based in Perth and has advised on a number of market leading M&A transactions in the mining and energy transition sectors. He regularly advises ASX-listed companies and private capital investors on strategic M&A transactions and investment into critical minerals projects located in Australia and overseas. Geoff began his career with the firm in Perth and has practiced for over 13 years.
Madeleine Miller, Projects, Energy and Infrastructure (M&A), Melbourne
Madeleine has extensive experience advising on M&A, joint ventures and other corporate transactions, primarily in the energy and infrastructure sectors. Her practice also spans project structuring and development, commercial contracts and sector specific Australian foreign investment law advice. Madeleine’s expertise means she is well placed to support clients through project development, acquisitions and sell downs.
Eunice Park - Disputes (Commercial Litigation and Investigations), Sydney
Eunice is an experienced litigator specialising in external regulatory and internal company investigations, commercial disputes, and corporate governance matters. Over the past decade, she has represented clients in high-profile disputes across Federal and Supreme Courts, international arbitration tribunals, and commissions of inquiry. Eunice is highly regarded for her skills in navigating complex, large-scale investigations involving highly sensitive and reputationally significant issues. The nature of her practice also means she regularly represents directors and officers in relation to regulatory and other risk issues. Eunice’s collaborative approach often involves working with cross-practice teams and addressing complex cross-jurisdictional challenges.
Li-Lian Yeo, Corporate (M&A, Private Equity and Restructuring, Turnaround & Insolvency), Sydney
Lil has over 15 years' experience in M&A, specialising in public, private and distressed M&A, with a particular focus on acting for private equity sponsors. She acts for international and domestic sponsors, credit funds, portfolio companies and corporate clients on a broad range of corporate and commercial transactions including listed company takeovers and schemes of arrangements, private business acquisitions and disposals, joint ventures and company restructures. Lil’s experience spans a broad range of sectors including aviation, financial services, waste management, healthcare, energy and resources, engineering services and retail.
