Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) has announced the promotion of four new Executive Counsel roles in Australia.
The promotions are a part of the firm’s annual global Executive Counsel promotion rounds, with 25 promoted globally. They will come into effect from 1 May 2025.
Kristin Stammer, Executive Partner - Asia and Australia, said: “Congratulations to our new executive counsel on their promotions.
“The promotions recognise the outstanding contribution of Magdalena, Kai, Kristin and Chevi to our clients, teams and firm.
“We are excited to be promoting our counsel and recognising their expertise in some of our key areas including energy and infrastructure, M&A, project finance and cyber risk.
“It is a very exciting time to be stepping into a leadership role at our firm as we prepare to combine with Kramer Levin in the United States and further cement our leading market position globally.”
Magda is the firm’s Asia Pacific Cyber Risk Advisory Lead, and a leading Australian technology lawyer. She has 20 years’ experience in the sector in private practice and senior leadership roles in-house specialising in cyber, data governance, critical infrastructure and emerging technology matters, advising clients in the critical infrastructure, telecommunications, technology, financial services, resources, energy and government sectors. She has deep experience in cyber incident response, readiness and recovery and data breach and governance matters, as well as advising on governance, risk, compliance and legal issues across the technology lifecycle.
Chevi has extensive experience advising Australian and international clients on M&A transactions, including acquisitions, divestments, sell-downs, joint ventures and restructures. With over 10 years’ experience in the field, Chevi is recognised for her technical excellence and commercial approach to deal-making. She primarily acts for clients in the projects, energy and infrastructure sector and has a broader M&A background, with experience across a range of industries, such as private equity and financial services M&A.
Kai has broad experience acting for both lenders and sponsors on a variety of financing transactions, with a focus on project finance in the mining, energy and infrastructure sectors as well as real estate and development finance. Kai’s legal experience includes advising on a wide range of domestic and cross-border financing matters, including experience across numerous African jurisdictions, including Botswana, Burkina Faso and Ghana.
Kristin has almost 20 years’ experience specialising in international and domestic resources, energy and infrastructure projects. This includes preparing and advising on project agreements and joint venture agreements for exploration, production and processing projects and significant experience undertaking purchaser and seller due diligence on mineral, coal, gas and energy assets. She also advises on the legislation regulating new resources projects and project expansions as well as on arrangements for rail and port capacity and procuring supply of water, goods and services and other complex procurement for resources projects.
