Bringing together leading arbitrators, practitioners and industry experts from around the world, the first ever London Arbitration Week (LAW) has concluded with huge success. Based at various locations in the City of London, LAW aims to be at the forefront of thought leadership whilst championing excellence, innovation, and global collaboration, with a clear vision to be a premier event in the international arbitration calendar of the highest quality.
Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer was a proud sponsor of LAW 2025, hosting a number of events and participating throughout the week.
Members of HSF Kramer's global arbitration practice attended events across the City, including the Opening and Closing Receptions, the main flagship conference and the celebration of 25 years of the International Dispute Resolution Centre.
On Tuesday 2 December, Hannah Ambrose (Partner, London) and Laurence Franc-Menget (Partner, Paris) spoke to a packed-out room of delegates at HSF Kramer's flagship event, discussing "Arbitration in the Age of Strategic Conflict: Navigating Sovereignty, Sanctions, and Security". That evening, Craig Tevendale (Partner, London) and Alexander Gridasov (Senior Associate, London) joined forces with the British-Kazakh Society to host a Central Asia Networking Reception, inviting arbitration professionals, investors, and business leaders to an evening of networking and conversation focused on Central Asia.
On Thursday 4 December, Mike McClure KC (Partner, London) joined an esteemed panel of speakers hosted by the Hainan International Arbitration Court (HIAC) at HSF Kramer's London offices to discuss "Recent Developments in Arbitral Legislation and Caselaw from England, France, Korea, Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland".
During the week, Hannah Ambrose also spoke at GAR Live: Women in Arbitration examining "The future frontier of arbitration", Louise Barber (Of Counsel, London) spoke on a panel discussing "An Ever More Connected Power System, the Links That Has and the Disputes That Can Create", Ilona Logvinova (Chief AI Officer, New York) debated on a panel titled "All in Favour: Say AI!", while Mike McClure KC spoke on another panel discussing "Arbitration: the Need for Speed – Balancing Efficiency and Due Process".
UK Head of Arbitration Craig Tevendale commented: "The inaugural London Arbitration Week has been an outstanding success. Across the City, the energy, diversity of viewpoints and depth of debate this week reaffirm London’s status as a leading global centre for international dispute resolution and arbitration - where world class practitioners, institutions and businesses come together to shape the future of the field. Great credit to our BD and events teams for hosting so many, and so well, at the three top drawer events held at Exchange House this week!"
Global Co-Head of Arbitration Andrew Cannon added: "Our own practitioners - here in London and from across our global network - have thoroughly enjoyed the events throughout LAW 2025. We are keen to keep the conversations going and are already looking forward to next year’s edition."
