Leading global law firm Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer has advised one of the project developers, low carbon utility company ENGIE on the bid submission, development, construction and financing aspects of the Khazna (PV4) solar power project in Abu Dhabi.
The project is a key pillar of Abu Dhabi's strategic plans to increase solar power generation capacity to beyond 18GW by 2035. The project, once complete, will have a capacity of 1.5GW, enough electricity to power approximately 160,000 homes across the UAE, avoiding more than 2.4 million metric tonnes of carbon emissions in Abu Dhabi per year.
Financial close was announced at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
The team was led by partner Phil Hanson and included senior associates Adel Shageev, Jason Feng and Maria Zerkalova and associates Portia Cox and Youssef Khalil.
Partner Phil Hanson commented: “We are pleased to have advised ENGIE on another key utilities project in the Middle East. Having also advised on the Fujairah 3 power project, Mirfa 2 water project, and Abu Dhabi waste-to-energy project, Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer is one of the leading firms on power and water projects in Abu Dhabi and across the Middle East.”
