Leading global law firm Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer has announced that James Campbell has joined the firm as a corporate partner in Tokyo today, 1 June.
Qualified in New York, he specialises in M&A and other corporate transactions, and has significant experience in a range of industries and market sectors, including renewable energy, real estate, automotive, manufacturing, consumer products and financial services, among others.
"Japan is an essential part of our growth plans given its deep investment corridors with the US, as well as Australia, Asia, the UK and EMEA," said Asia Managing Partner Graeme Preston.
"Adding James' experience to the Tokyo team further strengthens our Japan-US services to clients, which have flourished since our combination with Kramer Levin last year."
Based in Tokyo for seven years, James worked at legacy Kramer Levin in New York for five years before moving to Japan in 2019.
"Japanese clients require international reach, depth of expertise and integrated capability – especially for M&A and US SEC-registered domestic transactions," said Ernest S. Wechsler, US Head of Corporate.
"James' relationships and understanding of both markets will be invaluable, and I'm delighted to welcome him back to the team - appropriately, on the first anniversary of our combination as Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer."
