US Practitioner Larry Shore returns to Herbert Smith Freehills LLP

We are very pleased to welcome back dual US/UK qualified arbitration specialist Larry Shore to our international arbitration practice. Larry is joining Herbert Smith Freehills as a partner on 1 March and will be based in our New York office.

Larry returns to the firm after 5 years as co-head of international arbitration at Gibson Dunn in New York. He originally joined Herbert Smith in 1995 and was one of the partners responsible for establishing Herbert Smith's international arbitration group as a separate practice area within the firm in 2005. Larry acted as head of the group for three years, before returning to his native US in 2008.

Larry is a visiting professor at the School of International Arbitration at Queen Mary, University of London and sits as chair of the New York City Bar's International Law Committee. His extensive writing on international arbitration includes the first comprehensive textbook treatment of bilateral investment treaties in the modern era: International Investment Arbitration: Substantive Principles, co-authored by Herber Smith Freehills partner Matthew Weiniger and Professor Campbell McLachlan QC (first published by OUP in 2007).

Upon his arrival, together with the New York-based partner Chris Parker and associate Rob Rothkopf, Larry will play a key role in the development of Herbert Smith Freehills' international arbitration capability in the US. He will also work closely with the firm's Latin American Group. Larry's knowledge of the New York market, coupled with the language skills and legal expertise of the firm's Madrid office and Latin American arbitration specialist Christian Leathley, will enable Herbert Smith Freehills to expand its activities in this region.
