The government has announced the launch of the Modern Slavery Statement Registry. Once the relevant legislation has been passed (see below), it will become mandatory for organisations that are within the scope of section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 to submit a statement to the Registry.
The Registry, which was launched following the government’s consultation on transparency in supply chains in 2020 (see our blog post here), will collate modern slavery statements in one place. The aim is to enhance transparency and make it easier for consumers, investors and others to access and compare the action being taken by organisations to address modern slavery risks in their operations and supply chains.
The government has confirmed that the legislative changes required to make use of the Registry mandatory will be introduced as soon as parliamentary time allows.
