The British government has announced that it is relaunching the Net Zero Council, expanding its membership to include civil society and local authorities. The move signals a recognition that the road to net zero cannot be paved by industry alone. By broadening participation, ministers hope to foster deeper collaboration across sectors and address systemic barriers to decarbonisation.
The Council was established to act as an advisory body to provide expert insight on the Government's net zero strategy. The inclusion of local government and civil society introduces perspectives on the practical and social dimensions of decarbonisation, from infrastructure challenges to public buy-in.
