The Supreme Court has announced the appointment of two new justices, Lord Justice Wilson (now Lord Wilson, following his swearing in on 26 May) and Jonathan Sumption QC (who will be sworn in at a date to be agreed).
The appointments follow the retirement of Lord Saville and Lord Collins, who is a former Herbert Smith partner and the first judge from the solicitors’ branch of the legal profession to reach the UK's highest court. Lord Collins will continue to sit as an additional judge of the court.
