The Supreme Court has today announced the appointment of two new justices, Lord Reed and Lord Justice Carnwath CVO. The two appointments follow the death of Lord Rodger in June 2011 and the forthcoming retirement of Lord Brown in April 2012.
Lord Justice Carnwath has been a Lord Justice of Appeal since 2002, having previously been a judge of the Chancery Division. Lord Reed is a senior judge in Scotland, having been promoted to the Inner House in January 2008. He has also sat as an ad hoc judge of the European Court of Human Rights, and in the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council and, more recently, as an Acting Judge of the Supreme Court.
