Jojo leads our business in China and is a commercial litigation lawyer with nearly 20 years of experience. She is trusted adviser to many clients' senior-decision makers on complex, high-value commercial litigation and bet-the-company cases.

Fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin, Jojo specialises in providing advice on contentious issues facing Chinese and international financial services providers. She has extensive experience in restructuring- and insolvency-related defence litigation, particularly involving multibillion-dollar claims for fraudulent trading and Quincecare breaches. She also regularly handles complex financial disputes including mis-selling, unauthorised trading, debt recovery, enforcement of security and cyber fraud. She has represented financial services clients in a wide range of regulatory inquiries/investigations, disciplinary enforcement proceedings and civil proceedings in the High Court of Hong Kong.

In addition to advising banks, financial institutions and corporates, she has also helped clients across a wide range of industries on various types of disputes and contentious matters, including post-M&A disputes involving breach of warranty claims, shareholder and boardroom disputes, joint venture disputes, fraud cases, misrepresentation and economic tort claims. Her clients extend to state-owned PRC companies, global manufacturers, major international corporations, Hong Kong listed companies, distressed funds, private equity funds, and those in the fintech, TMT and consumer sectors.

  • an IPO sponsor in liquidation defence against allegations of dishonest assistance, knowing receipt and fraudulent trading by Liquidators for over HK$5 billion 
  • two Chinese banks against multibillion dollar Quinecare claims, with quantum of over HK$1 billion and US$500 billion respectively
  • various leading Chinese and European private banks in relation to allegations of unauthorised trading and mis-selling by their ultra high-net worth customers
  • China Everbright Securities in pursuing winding up proceedings where the underlying petition debt involves arbitration, leading to a landmark Court of Appeal decision in Re Simplicity (CACV 183/2023) and subsequently applied in a Privy Council decision
  • a US distress debt fund in respect of enforcement of a US$100 million loan against a Chinese real estate developer

Background

Jojo graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Government and Laws) (First Class Honours) degree, and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree, before completing the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws at the same university. She is dual qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong and in England & Wales.
