Katharine Keane
Katy’s litigation and investigations work spans industries and sectors, including banking, financial services, cryptocurrency and digital assets, and many of her matters involve interrelated investigations, suits and enforcement actions.
As a member of various litigation teams, Katy is involved in all phases of suits in federal and state courts, from developing factual records, conducting legal research and drafting pleadings to preparing pretrial motions, memoranda and briefs and providing support for hearings and trials. She prepares fact witnesses, experts and corporate designees, second-chairs depositions and manages workflows, and reviews and implements protocols for large-scale digital discovery reviews.
She also supports clients and witnesses in internal investigations and investigations, hearings and enforcement actions before federal agencies, including the US Department of Justice, FinCEN and the Securities and Exchange Commission, and in self-regulatory organizations such as FINRA for hearings and panel proceedings.
Katy’s recent white-collar work involved assisting in the representation of a former banking official as part of a greater anti-money laundering investigation. She is currently working on high-profile securities fraud criminal cases in New York and Washington state. Her complex commercial work includes breach of contract and employment disputes.
In addition to her litigation and investigations work, Katy commits significant time to pro bono representations. She recently represented a client in an excessive sentence appeal, arguing in the First Department Appellate Division, and helped draft an amicus brief in support of congestion pricing in New York City, filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York. Katy also regularly represents asylum seekers.
While in law school, she interned at the Women’s Prison Association in New York City, working on family law and housing issues for formerly incarcerated clients. As a member of Fordham’s Criminal Defense Clinic, she represented misdemeanor clients in Manhattan Criminal Court and collaborated with attorneys in Legal Aid’s Brooklyn office.
