Kishaya supports the firm’s impact driven pro bono practice.

As a solicitor in the Pro Bono team, Kishaya is a legal generalist who assists pro bono clients to access legal services provided within the firm.

Kishaya has a specific focus on supporting First Nations clients and communities and contributes to the firm’s charity advisory practice. She also plays a key role in the delivery of the firm’s First Nations Strategy.

Kishaya was recognised as First Nations Lawyer of the Year in 2023.

Selected matters

  • Coordinating the firm’s contribution to the Towards Truth project in collaboration with the Justice and Equity centre, including legal research and strategic support.
  • Advising First Nations charities on incorporation and governance.
  • Supporting internal review applications under the Stolen Generations Reparations Scheme.
  • Advocating for The Shopfront Youth Legal Centre clients in the Local Court of NSW.

Background

Kishaya joined the firm in 2017 whilst studying and moved into a full time pro bono role in 2022. Kishaya spent 18 months at the Justice and Equity Centre, leading a team of researchers to develop a law and policy mapping database to support truth-telling under the third reform of the Uluru Statement of the Heart.

Kishaya holds a Bachelor of Law (First Class Honours) and a Bachelor of Communication from the University of Newcastle. Kishaya is an admitted solicitor in the Supreme Court of New South Wales.

Kishaya will be taking extended leave of absence to undertake a Master of Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School from late 2025.
