Rachael is a Senior Associate with a focus in environmental law.  

Rachael has experience advising on a full range of environmental issues including contamination liabilities, waste, permitting, energy reporting, producer responsibility, MEES and green leases. She works with clients across a range of industries to navigate environmental risks and integrate compliance into corporate strategies.

Rachael undertakes both contentious and non-contentious work and has expertise in providing strategic and commercial advice to clients on the allocation of environmental risks and liabilities in the context of real estate and corporate transactions both nationally and internationally.

She also acts for clients in relation to investigations and enforcement action by the Local Authority, EA, NRW and SEPA.  

Rachael is recognised as a "leading associate" in Legal 500 UK (2025) and has been described as a "standout associate" who is a key name to note for M&A and due diligence within an environmental context. She has also been described as "tactile, pragmatic and straight to the point." (Legal 500 UK (2024)).

Selected matters

  • advised numerous manufacturers, retailers and supply chain parties on producer responsibility obligations and Extended Producer Responsibility, including securing enforcement undertakings to avoid prosecution
  • advised a broad range of clients on compliance with ESOS, including strategies for addressing non-compliance and communications with the Environment Agency
  • undertook EHS due diligence for Coca-Cola HBC AG on its acquisition in Coca-Cola Beverages Africa Pty Ltd for a combined purchase price of US$2.6 billion
  • advised an energy company in relation to an application to renew its abstraction licence involving complex HRA considerations
  • advising Sizewell on environmental permitting requirements
  • advised a mine operator on environmental closure requirements and obligations
  • represented a bank on the appeal of a noise abatement notice served under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. The notice was withdrawn prior to the appeal hearing
  • coordinated multi-jurisdictional advice for a global manufacturing client in relation to obligations under the Energy Efficiency Directive
  • advised on and drafted bespoke green lease provisions for a client for use across its global property portfolio
