Aaron Jacobs
A versatile member of litigation and trial teams, Aaron works on all phases of cases, from conducting prelitigation research and factual investigations in support of case assessments and litigation strategy and preparing initial pleadings to researching and drafting pre- and posttrial motions and preparing for and assisting in trials, hearings and appeals. He conducts large-scale document discovery projects, prepares witnesses for depositions and other testimony and identifies documents and factual narratives for cross-examinations in hearings and at trial.
Aaron’s recent work includes representing, as a member of the bankruptcy litigation team, leading branded foods producer and distributor Del Monte Foods in its strategic restructuring. He was also a member of the defense team in a high-profile criminal RICO, securities fraud and market manipulation case in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, handling trial preparation that included developing factual narratives and key documentary evidence for use in cross-examining government witnesses.
Aaron commits significant time to pro bono matters, counseling and representing individuals facing emotionally fraught personal situations and legal challenges. He assists clients in family law matters, including divorce and termination of parental rights cases, and represents tenants in appeals in New York City Housing Court. He also assists veterans in filing initial benefits claims for their service-related disabilities and represents them in appeals of denial-of-benefits determinations with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Aaron was a member of a team that secured a grant of asylum in U.S. Immigration Court for a woman, as well as her five children, who fled Peru to escape spousal abuse and gang violence, developing the brief, the affidavits and other accompanying evidence in support of her case. He also assisted in the research and drafting of an amicus brief on behalf of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and a number of other medical and physicians associations in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in Maryland Shall Issue, Inc. v. Anne Arundel County, Maryland, a case challenging an ordinance requiring gun stores to display and distribute to gun purchasers two pamphlets warning of the risks of suicide and promoting nonviolent conflict resolution. The amicus brief detailed the firsthand experiences of 11 physicians, including pediatricians, a former battalion surgeon in the U.S. military and psychiatrists, who treat children and adults who have been shot by firearms.
Aaron joined the firm as an associate after participating in the summer associate program. He returned to the firm after clerking with the Hon. James L. Cott of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
