Aqeel is an associate in the Financial Sponsors team with a particular focus on private equity transactions.

Aqeel advises financial sponsors, private equity houses and their portfolio companies on a wide range of matters which include leveraged buyouts, acquisitions and disposals, growth equity transactions, shareholder and management incentive arrangements, joint ventures, restructurings and refinancings.

  • Blackstone on the non-US elements of its acquisition of a majority stake in Emerson’s Climate Technologies business – a deal valuing the business at US$14 billion.
  • EQT and Icon Group on its acquisition of the Pharmaxo Group
  • Zain Group and its subsidiary TASC Towers Holding on their negotiations with Ooredoo to combine their mobile telecommunicators tower portfolios to create the largest independent tower company in the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region.
  • IFC on its investment in Holmarom Finance Company, a leading privately-owned financial services company.
  • DWS Infrastructure on its provision of funding to Global Ports Holding B.V. for the purposes of its unconditional cash offer for all of the shares in Global Ports Holding Plc not currently owned by it.
  • Rover Group on its acquisition of Cat in a Flat, an online cat-sitting platform with operations across the UK and Europe.
  • Waterland Private Equity and the management on the sale of Cooper Parry to Lee Equity Partners.
  • Fidelio Capital in relation to an investment by CVC into its portfolio company Odevo.
  • Uber B.V. on its $3.1 billion acquisition of Careem, the largest provider of internet-led transportation in the Middle East. This is the biggest ever technology acquisition in the Middle East.

Background

Aqeel has a Bachelor of Arts (honours) from the University of Warwick. He completed the Graduate Diploma in Law at BPP Law School (Birmingham), and the Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School (London). 

He is qualified in England and Wales. 

During his training contract, Aqeel spent six months on secondment in the Dubai office.
