Bertrand is an associate resolving commercial disputes, including in the energy, technology and infrastructure sectors.

His experience encompasses various forms of dispute resolution, including litigation in the English High Court and Competition Appeal Tribunal, and international arbitrations under the LCIA Arbitration Rules and ICC Rules of Arbitration.

Bertrand is trained in both civil and common law and has spent, as part of his training contract, six months in the firm's Paris international arbitration team. He was also seconded to HSF's client Sainsbury's where he worked on consumer and supplier disputes.

  • a major French company in the energy sector in a US$340 million ICC arbitration against an oil services company, in a dispute concerning the execution of a completion services contract for wells off the coast of a West African country
  • a major Swiss oil company in annulment proceedings in Tanzania seeking to set aside a US$132 million arbitral award, arising out of the alleged breach of a framework agreement for the transportation and sale of oil products in East Africa
  • AerCap in multi-billion US dollar Commercial Court proceedings concerning aviation insurance claims for aircraft lost in Russia following the invasion of Ukraine
  • a major hospitality provider on its rights and obligations under a hospitality agreement with the Olympic Committee in connection with the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, governed by French law
  • a major French aircraft manufacturer in relation to a settlement agreement with a sanctioned Russian oligarch, involving international sanctions and alleged document forgery
  • Apache North Sea Limited v Euroil Exploration Limited and Edison S.p.A. – successfully defending Euroil and Edison in proceedings in the High Court and the Court of Appeal relating to the interpretation of a Farm Out Agreement for the sale of an interest in two production licences and a related Joint Operating Agreement
  • a European truck manufacturer in regard to competition follow-on damages claims commenced in the UK and across the European Union (including an application for collective proceedings in the Competition Appeal Tribunal)

Bertrand holds First Class dual Bachelor's degree and Master in English Law and French Law from King's College London and the Université of Paris II Assas.

He holds a second Master in International Commercial Law and Private International Law from the Université of Paris II Assas, with a focus on the impact of Brexit on Private International Law rules in France and the United-Kingdom.
