Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer advises MA Financial on acquisition of specialist real estate investment manager IP Generation

Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer (HSF Kramer) has advised MA Financial Group Limited (ASX: MAF) on its A$90.4 million acquisition of specialist real estate investment management firm IP Generation (IPG).

MA Financial Group is a global alternative asset manager specialising in private credit, real estate and hospitality. IPG manages ~$2 billion of retail shopping centre assets across 10 funds that own 14 shopping centres located in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia on behalf of high net wealth investors. The IPG business will be integrated into MA Financial’s real estate Asset Management platform, growing its real estate assets under management (AUM) to ~$8 billion and overall AUM to over $12 billion.

The HSF Kramer team was led by Chair and Senior Partner Rebecca Maslen-Stannage, supported by executive counsel Ying Yi Soh, senior associate Danielle Farrell and solicitors Caitlin Yan and Samantha Urquhart. The in-house MA Financial legal team, led by General Counsel Rebecca Ong, included Daniel Ezekiel and HSF Kramer secondee William Marshall.

The acquisition continues HSF Kramer’s work with MA Financial Group: the firm advised on the successful ASX listing and $330 million IPO of the MA Credit Income Trust in March 2025, and on the A$490 million commitment MA Financial Group received from Warburg Pincus for its Real Estate Credit Vehicle in October 2024.
