Leading global law firm Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer sponsored the Canning House annual Mining Conference - Casting Alloy: Forging Latin America’s Role in the Energy Transition. The event was hosted by Anglo American, a valued and principal client of the firm.  This was the fourth annual Canning House mining summit to be held in close collaboration with Anglo American. The event welcomed over 150 delegates across the Globe and continues to grow each year.

The summit featured two panels and a fireside discussion looking at the future of mining in Latin America and the critical role the region has to play in the global energy transition.

Panel One, moderated by Felipe Werneck of Anglo American underlined what is needed to unlock the region’s potential: patient capital, predictable fiscal frameworks (including transparent royalty design), and an ESG‑aligned policy that builds trust across global supply chains – especially as demand for critical minerals outpaces supply.

Panel Two, moderated by Laura Hulett, corporate partner and member of the firm's Latin America Group, explored how technology, skills, and innovation – from drones and advanced simulations to robust data governance – can drive productivity while partnering with communities to address tailings, water, and social licence.

The Fireside insights discussion led by Loly Vallenilla Sosa from Anglo with International Copper Association President & CEO Juan Ignacio Diaz highlighted copper’s 100% recyclability reinforced a materials‑based, circular transition, and spotlighted Latin America’s significant pipeline of greenfield projects.

The event concluded with closing remarks by Greg Mulley, an HSF Kramer corporate partner and Head of Mining UK and EMEA.

Thank you to all speakers and participants for a solutions‑focused dialogue.
