Nathan Candler works on intellectual property matters, in particular complex patent disputes.

Nathan provides support in prelitigation patent disputes and in litigation on behalf of both patent owners seeking to enforce their rights and companies defending against allegations of patent infringement. He assists with the development of the technical aspects of cases, including infringement and appropriation analyses, and in the preparation of court filings.

While his work on behalf of clients spans a variety of technologies, Nathan has a particular interest in blockchain and distributed ledger technology, recently presenting “Blockchain’s Evolution: From an Abstract Idea to a Regulated Infrastructure,” on the intersection of patents and blockchain technology, as part of the firm’s monthly intellectual property (IP) learning series.

Nathan is also committed to pro bono work and participates in the firm’s partnerships with a number of service organizations. His recent pro bono efforts have included guiding asylum seekers in the application process and advocating for veterans seeking disability benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Nathan joined the firm after participating in the 2024 summer associate program in the Silicon Valley office. During law school, he completed a legal field placement with a full-service digital consultancy, supporting in-house counsel on matters involving complex regulatory schemes, commercial contract disputes and international compliance frameworks. He also worked as a summer law clerk for a Northern California-based boutique firm conducting fact inquiries and asset valuations, and preparing pleadings. While pursuing his degree in electrical engineering, Nathan designed and constructed systems for privately sponsored projects in agricultural technology and pharmaceutical biotechnology.
