Sam is a Partner in the firm's corporate practice with a focus on the power and infrastructure sectors.

Sam advises clients on a broad range of energy and infrastructure projects in the UK and internationally, including acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures and project developments, with a focus on the power, renewables and energy transition sectors.

Sam has advised on projects spanning a variety of technologies, including solar, battery energy storage, wind, biomass, biogas, energy‑from‑waste, gas generation and carbon capture and storage. Sam regularly advises financial investors, project sponsors, IPPs and lenders.

Sam also advises on complex commercial contracts within these sectors, with a focus on power purchase agreements (PPA), tolling agreements and revenue optimisation agreements.

Sam has previously spent time on secondment with EDF Energy Renewables and Aberdeen Investments.

  • CVC DIF on its majority investment into Low Carbon, a leading developer, builder and operator of utility-scale solar, onshore wind and battery storage projects
  • AIP Management on the acquisition of a 50% ownership stake in Coalburn 2, a BESS facility with 1GWh of energy storage capacity, owned by CIP, and on the acquisition of a 49% interest in each of three BESS projects in England from BW ESS, which together have energy storage capacity of 2.4GWh
  • Statera Energy on the route to market and revenue guarantee arrangements with Statkraft for its 680MW/1360MWh Carrington Storage Facility
  • CVC DIF on its investment into Field, a dedicated developer and operator of Battery Energy Storage Systems
  • Sandbrook Capital and Voltwise Power on the acquisition and financing of a portfolio of BESS projects from SMS Energy

Background

Sam studied law at the University of Bristol before commencing training and qualifying in 2016. Sam joined the firm in February 2019.
