Linares' appointment became effective on 1 May
12 May 2025. International law firm Herbert Smith Freehills has appointed Maximino Linares as the firm's new Head of Tax Litigation in Spain. Linares, who previously led EY Abogados' tax litigation practice, joined the firm on 1 May.
Linares is a State Attorney on leave and brings a wealth of experience from the Spanish public administration, having served as State Attorney-in-Chief of the Corporate Taxation Department of the State Attorney General's Office before the Supreme Court and National High Court, State Attorney-in-Chief at the Ministry of Employment and Immigration, as well as Director of the State Tax Agency's Legal Department. Additionally, he has represented the Tax Agency on the Council for Taxpayer Protection and he is currently a member of the Academic Council of FIDE. Linares transitioned to the private sector in 2012 to join EY Abogados. Throughout his professional career he has balanced his work with teaching roles.
