Leading global law firm Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer announced today that project finance lawyer Ben Thompson has joined the firm in Singapore as a partner.
Based in Asia for over two decades, Ben has deep experience in financing energy and infrastructure projects across Asia. He will work with the firm's leading energy, finance and projects teams to further enhance their services to clients.
"Ben adds formidable project finance expertise to our Asia platform," said Asia Head of Corporate Andrew Blacoe. "His insight into regional markets, client needs and emerging opportunities will materially strengthen our offering and position us for continued growth."
"I'm delighted Ben is joining the firm, bringing strong relationships with both lenders and sponsors active in Asia," said Jinny Chaimungkalanont, Managing Partner, Finance & Restructuring.
Ben's hire is the latest expansion of the firm's energy and projects teams in Singapore, following the hire of Head of Energy Anthony Patten, projects and finance partner Ee Lynn Tan in 2024, and Head of Projects Adrian Wong in 2022.
"As energy demand continues to grow in Asia, clients will value Ben’s deep regional experience and reputation as a highly regarded project finance lawyer," said Anthony Patten.
ABOUT BEN
Ben has an impressive energy and infrastructure practice, split between project finance and development work. He has a particular focus on conventional power (including LNG-to-power) and renewable power (including hydropower) but has also worked on large petrochemical, FSRU, FPSO, telecoms and water sector financings.
His experience includes advising both lenders and sponsors. Ben brings a deep understanding of MDB/DFI lending, given the emerging markets in which many of his projects have been located, and on outbound Japanese investments in Asia Pacific.
A law graduate of the University of Glasgow, Ben began his career at Linklaters in London and Singapore, before joining then Allen & Overy in Bangkok. He joins the firm from Mayer Brown in Singapore, where he was Head of Projects & Infrastructure for Asia.
